The Enchanted Tree

A big thank you to all our dancers who worked so well as a team together last night to make The Enchanted Tree such a success.

After a chaotic rehearsal on Wednesday, the show fell very nicely into place last night.  Thank you all for so diligently attending the rehearsals, even though most of you were in the middle of exams.

Thanks to all the parents for supporting your children this year and supporting the concert.   We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Dear Parents and Pupils,

Please note that the studio will have its last lessons on Thursday the 25^th of November and close after the Concert on Friday the 26^th of November 2010.

We reopen on Monday the 24^th of January 2011.

Coloring In Competition:

Please make sure all your entries are in no later than Friday the 19^th of November, so we can do the judging over the weekend, and you can get your pictures back the following week.  We will announce the winners at the concert.

Concert Rehearsal: Wednesday the 24^th November – Opera House

This rehearsal is compulsory if you are dancing in our concert as it is impossible to polish the groups with people missing!!!!

Please note that this has changed and will no longer be on Friday the 19^th of November as previously written.  Normal Classes will take place in the studio instead.  Please dress in your concert costumes.

Please attend this rehearsal in full costume and light make-up, as Robin West will be taking photographs (both individual and group) in the foyer of the theatre. 

The rehearsal schedule will be as follows:

13H45 – 15H30: Birds, All Cast of Land of Spells, Dreamland, and Land of Happy Endings. (Second Half of Concert)

15H30 – 17H45:  Birds, Forest Scene and Land of Sweets. (First Half of Concert)

Remember to bring some juice and a sandwich, as it will be a long afternoon for some of the dancers.

End of year Concert:

Venue:  Opera House    Date:  26^th November 2010       Time:  18H00

Please purchase tickets in advance, as there will be no tickets for sale on the evening of the concert. 

• Tickets are available at R60 each from your teacher.
• Each child participating in the concert to pay a fee of R150.  This is pooled together to keep costs low for props, backdrop, rehearsal fees at the Opera House and the making of the new costumes which build up the wardrobe. 
• Children, unless informed otherwise, must please report back stage at 16H45, dressed with hair and make-up done.  We will only have time to put on pencil lines. 
• Please make sure that your child knows what to wear and comes with all the necessary items.   Remember to bring a spare pair of tights. (Grecian Honey or Black Footless or Pink Ballet depending on group) 
• All pupils dancing only in the first half of the program may sit upstairs during the second half of the show and vice versa.  Pupils dancing in both halves will have to remain backstage for the duration of the concert.  Parents can fetch their little ones back stage at interval.
• Dancers do not need to purchase tickets, unless they are sitting downstairs with their parents. 
• No Cell Phones allowed in the dressing rooms. 
• After the end of the show, please place all your costumes in the black bags provided in the basement dressing area, so please remember to bring other clothes and underwear to wear home.
• Children may not sit in the auditorium in costume, so bring a gown or tracksuit to wear over the costume with button or zip up tops that don’t have to be pulled over their heads. 
• Refreshments will be available in the foyer during interval.
• No cameras or video cameras allowed in the auditorium.  A DVD will be filmed and can be ordered from us in January.

Outstanding Fees:

All outstanding fees to be paid in by year end please, so that we can finalize our books for the year.  We will be handing out the timetable and fee structure for 2011 shortly.

Hip Hop Exams 2010

Today Avril Owen also examined our Hip Hoppers.  Nine girls entered and all looked like they were having loads of fun dancing with a live audience.


Although nobody achieved 'Da Bomb' this year, which is 90 - 100%, three girls did get 'Fly.' (80 - 90%)

They were Lisa Mare Botha, Jeanie Adendorff and Jamie Smith.  All the others received a respectable Awesome (70 - 79%).

Modern Exams 2010

Today, we all had fun doing our A.I.D.T. Modern Dancing Exams.  We were privileged to have Avril Owen from Johannesburg to examine the girls, and she definitely gets our vote for one of the most friendly examiners around.

Well done to all 17 girls who participated today you all passed well and we are proud of you all.  As usual a special mention to those who got top marks.

October 2010 Newletter

Dear Parents and Pupils,                                                               

This is our final and busiest term of the year.  Please make a note of all the important studio events in your diary.

Please note that there will be NO DANCING CLASSES on the following dates due to badge tests, modern exams and concert.

BADGE TESTS

The Badge Tests will be held at our Lorraine studio on Friday the 15^th of October. 

Your time is at ________.  Please be ready to dance half an hour before your scheduled test time.  You will need the following:

Teddy Bears Picnic and Dolly Dance: Pale blue leotard, blue skirt, pink tights, pink shoes.  Hair in a pony tail.

Milkmaid & Swedish: Leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, character shoes, character skirt.  Hair parted in the middle with two plaits.

Spring Polka and Lieberwaltzer:   As discussed, pink tights, pink ballet/pointe shoes.

Bubble Bubble:  Navy blue leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes.

MODERN AND HIP HOP EXAMS

Exams will run from Monday the 1^st of November to Wednesday the 3^rd of November at the Lorraine Studio.  

Your Modern/Hip Hop exam will be at ________ on the ____ of November.  Please note you must be here at least 45 minutes before you are due to dance.  

There will be no dancing lessons on these three days.  Please order your unitards well in advance from Rae Masters Tel: 041 360-2898 as she gets very busy at this time. Please do not miss lessons at this stage.

ANNUAL CONCERT

Please make sure to pay your concert fee of R150 immediately if you haven’t done so yet.

Our end of year concert will be held at the Opera House on Friday the 26^th of November 18H00.  We would love everybody in the studio to participate.  Tickets will be R60 each and pre- booked seating will be available from Michel or Cathy from the middle of October.  Dancers participating don’t need tickets.  A professional DVD will once again be taken and can be ordered in January 2011 for R85 per DVD.  Please order from your teacher by the middle of February 2011 at the latest if you would like a copy.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE INTERNATIONAL GENEE COMPETITION:

For the first time ever this exciting competition will be held in South Africa (Cape Town) in October 2011.  All the dance fraternities and schools throughout South Africa have been asked to do fund raising and outreach programs to help fund this event.  To get sponsors the teachers will be doing various outreach programs in the townships. 

As a studio to show our enthusiasm, we have decided to hold a ‘coloring in competition.’  We would like each child purchase a picture/s of their choice from us, to color in/paint/pastel for R5 per entry.  The pictures will be used to decorate our studio for the last term.  Winners will be chosen by an outside judge and announced at our concert.  All proceeds will help to ensure that South Africa hosts a wonderful competition.

Cathy will be away examining from the 22^nd of October to the 10^th of November.  Candice will be teaching the classes in her absence.

PE Dance Festival

A HUGE well done to all you girls who had the courage and determination to go up on stage and do a solo this year.  We know that it takes a lot of hard work and nerves of steel to get out there in front of all those people and perform to your best ability.

3rd Term 2010 News Letter

Dear Parents and Pupils,

Congrats to all the ballet girls for passing your exams so nicely. Well Done!!

Modern Exams:

Modern Exams will take place at the end of October. Please make sure that you have your unitards well in advance, as Rae gets very busy near exam time. Her number is (041) 360-2898. Remember no Navy or Black. You could also try Ronel Reid at 082 977-1951 for an appointment.

Modern Exam fees, which include music player fees, will need to be in by the 6th of August. Fees are as follows:

Primary: R 178.00                                       Junior Lower: R 235.00

Junior Higher: R 235.00                              Preparatory: R 235.00

Prelim Junior: R 255.00                               Intermediate: R 295.00

Associates 1: R 580.00                                Hip Hop Junior: R 150.00



Dance Festival:

Costume Hiring Fees:

The costume hiring fee for the festival solo’s is as follows:

Juniors (up to 12yrs): R10

Seniors (12yrs and over): R20

NB: These are payable before the festival starts.


Festival:

Keep your festival card in a safe place, as your child will need to present these at the theatre doors to gain free entry. Please be at the theatre 1 hour before your scheduled time. Please arrive with hair and basic make-up done. All costumes must be covered with either a tracksuit or dressing gown on arrival, as nobody is permitted to sit in the auditorium or foyer in costume. Please have a spare pair

of stockings with you. Tickets can be purchased at the door. No cell phones will be allowed in the dressing rooms. Parents will not be allowed to stay backstage or in the dressing rooms due to congestion.


Badge Tests (Ballet):

Entry fees for badge tests must be in no later than Friday the 27th of August. The entry fee is R105 per badge. The badge tests will be done on Friday the 15th of October.


Vocational Graded Exams and Workshop:

The vocational graded entry fees of R 845 for Intermediate Foundation will need to be in by Friday the 27th of August. There will be a compulsory workshop for exam candidates from Friday the 17th to Tuesday the 21st of September. The costs for this will be advised as soon as we get them.


Concert – The Enchanted Tree

Our annual concert will held on Friday the 26th of November this year at the Opera House. We have booked a stage rehearsal on Friday the 19th of November at 14H00. Tickets will be on sale from the beginning of the 4th Term for R65. A fee will be charged per dancer to cover costume hire, props and stage rehearsal t

ime of R150. Concert fees must be in no later than Thursday the 23rd of September.


The 3rd Term will end after classes on Wednesday the 22nd of September.

Ballet Exams in Port Elizabeth

Today, our girls enjoyed performing for Miss Irvine.
The weather was freezing, the wind was blowing, but other than that, everything went smoothly.

Jeffrey's Bay RAD Ballet Exams

Today Miss Irvine examined the Jeffreys Bay Portion of our ballet studio.  The girls all came out smiling, having enjoyed their exams.
